 One
of the main goals of the Blue Heron design is to give pilots an
unobstructed view of the world. The open cockpit allows easy entry and
exit with no obstructions. For those looking for additional peace of
mind, the Monkey Bar option retains the original open cockpit of the
Blue Heron while giving additional overhead protection. When placing
materials outboard of the main airframe, aluminum tubing does not
afford strength worthy at these unsupported dimensions.
The Monkey Bar
is engineered from thin-wall steel tubing, the only material practical
for such an application. Aluminum roll cages as seen on some machines
simply do not hold up.
A pilot's greatest security in flying will
always be in their ability as a pilot. Security derived from additional
materials added to the craft may help in some cases, but are still
secondary to the pilots capability. The Monkey Bar option may give
additional support during roll-over or other unforeseen circumstances
but keep in mind that your greatest protection is in not leaving the
ground until you are truly ready.
